Duo – Mother of Pearl

I think this might be one of my personal favourites. The off-white colour, the little specks of sand here and there, and that beautiful mother-of-pearl… It really catches the eye, while still feeling soft and calm.

This set from the Naturals collection consists of an oval tray and a ribbed, U-shaped candle holder. Mother-of-pearl appears in both pieces: in a line across the tray and around the openings of the candle holder. Two different shapes that just work together.

To me, it has a touch of classical beauty. Perhaps it’s the ribs on the candle holder, which remind me a little of columns, or the combination of off-white and mother-of-pearl. Somehow, it makes me think of ancient Rome. And apparently, the Romans also used mother-of-pearl to decorate their more lavish interiors. I completely understand the appeal.

The mother-of-pearl catches the light beautifully. From one angle, you mostly see soft, natural tones. Look from another, and hints of pink, blue and silver appear. For me, that little bit of shimmer brings it all together.

Each duo is handmade. The speckles and the shape, colour and placement of the mother-of-pearl therefore vary from set to set. The duo you receive may differ slightly from the photos.
